High Island

High Island Field

This somewhat smaller open water shallow gas development was made highly economic by an optimized development approach. The reservoir was exploited using a single horizontal well with an open-hole gravel packed completion which achieved high production rates while saving costs. Also the platform was moved and redeployed from a nearby company owned field, saving both time and cost for the project.

High Island Southern

High Island Field

This redevelopment in over 200’ of water began with Arena’s first drill well. The prospect was identified in 1999 in a field which was in the process of being abandoned. Arena’s first well was drilled in open water, just in time to save the lease. Following the discovery, a platform was installed and one additional development well was drilled. Cumulative production exceeded 13 bcfe.

Expertise

Arena’s reserve base has been created mostly via the drill bit rather than by acquisition.  Arena has participated in more than 150 offshore drill wells, of which over 90 percent have been successful.  The majority of the drilling opportunities were exploitation-style prospects resulting from a detailed field-study approach.  The company has an average working interest exceeding 70 percent in these drill wells.  During the past three years, Arena has been the third most active operator in the Gulf of Mexico based on the number of wells drilled, trailing only Chevron and Apache.

Arena operates the majority of its production, including 40 structures located in more than 25 different oil and gas fields. Operations span the Gulf of Mexico, from just east of Corpus Christi, Texas to just south of Biloxi, Mississippi.
